Constant Monitors

Constant Monitor continually verify the effectiveness of your ESD protected workstation

Constant Monitors are excellent tools for static control and should be considered for any ESD Protection Program.  ESD Constant monitors are devices used to monitor the ground connection of ESD wrist straps, worksurfaces and other components and signal the user when there is a problem. Monitors reduce production costs by eliminating the time spent on testing wrist straps before each shift. Further savings may be realized by reduced ESD damage from malfunctioning wrist straps.

Types of Constant Monitors

There are three types of ESD monitors: Capacitance, Impedance and Resistance.  The one you choose depends on several factors but the most important is your application.

Features

Constant monitors can be very simple, or complex. The following are some common monitoring features:
  • Wrist Straps: Typically one or two wrist straps can be actively monitored. Some monitors allow more wrist straps to be connected and grounded, but may not monitor the strap.
  • Work surfaces: An option available with some constant monitors is the ability to monitor the work surface. This can be done by verifying the mat’s ground cable or by measuring the resistance of the material.
  • Auxiliary Tools: Constant monitors may also monitor grounded equipment at the workstation in a manner similar to work surfaces.
  • Operator Voltage:
Data logging: Some monitoring systems have data recording capabilities. These monitors are connected to your network and can log failures into an easy to access database. Adjustable Alarms: Some monitors allow users to set the alarm parameters in order to satisfy higher ESD standards. Alarm Accessories: Display modules, external relays, operator presence sensors and sirens are available for specific applications.
