ESD Workstations - Constant Monitors: Single Wire and Dual Wire

ESD Constant monitors reduce production costs by eliminating the time spent on testing wrist straps before each shift. Constant monitoring products continuously check the total ground loop, including the operator, the wrist band and the coil cord throughout the work session. Further savings may be realized by reduced ESD damage from broken wrist straps. Transforming Technologies manufactures two types of monitors: CM400 series single wire constant monitors and CM2800 series Dual Wire (or Resistance) constant monitors.
Don't know which monitor is right for your application? Read our ESD Work Station Monitor Selection Guide.

CM2800 Network-Ready, Programable,
Dual Wire
Continuous Resistance Monitor

Provides continuous monitoring of voltage and resistance for two wrist straps along with resistance monitoring of two mats, and two grounded workstation tools. The CM2800’s alarm settings can be reconfigured quickly and easily with the PC software CM2800-SEE. The CM2800 is network ready and can easily be connected to other workstation monitors and a computer and be remotely monitored.

Dual Wire Continuous Resistance Monitor

Provides continuous monitoring of resistance for two wrist straps and two work surface mats. The CM2815 is an extremely sensitive and reliable ground monitoring instrument. Audible and visible alarms are triggered if the operator’s resistance exceeds 35 megohm (factory default). Low resistance can also triggers an alarm event. Mat alarm limits are set at 100 meg ohm.

CYCLOPS™ Operator Presence Sensors

CYCLOPS™ operator presence sensors, from Transforming Technologies, assure compliance with personnel grounding requirements and protect ESD safe workstations by sensing when an operator is within the protected work area. An operator who approaches the workstation without connecting their wrist strap causes the CM2800 Series resistance monitor with the CYCLOPS™ sensor to alarm. The alarm continues until compliance is achieved, preventing isolated operators from damaging ESD sensitive devices

CM410 Periodic Verification Tool

Transforming Technologies' constant monitors are designed to be adjustment free. Annual calibration is not necessary. If a quality program requires testing, verification tools that simulate a functional and non-functional wrist strap are available to verify that the monitor is functional. Used to verify that the CM400 & CM410 Constant Ground Monitors are in proper working order.

CP3000 Parking Station For
Dual Conductor Ground Products
and Constant Monitors

Provides a jack that will allow an operator to disconnect and leave the dual conductor cord at the workstation without the wrist strap monitoring system alarm sounding. Used with most commercially available resistance monitors and dual conductor grounding products. Used with the WB5000 Series Wrist Strap Set and the WB7000 Series Wrist Strap Set.

Reliable, Repeatable Results

Accuracy and reliability are improved with the impedance technology incorporated into our constant monitors. False alarms disappear and adjustments are not necessary. Powered and grounded by an AC adapter, the system is

fully automatic and begins sensing when a coil cord is plugged into the unit. A green light indicates a safe connection and a red light and audible alarm communicate

an unsafe connection.

Continuous Monitors pay for themselves

ESD-S1.1 notes that it is not necessary to test wrist straps daily when using constant monitoring systems. Higher value-added products especially benefit from the certainty of continuous monitoring.

The CM400, CM410 and CM420 are perfect solutions for assuring workstation grounding protection.

How does an ESD constant monitor work?
Reliable performance of ESD matting and ESD wrist straps is critical for your product's integrity and reliability. Yet hand testing and hand logging wrist straps and table top material performance is a cumbersome, labor intensive paperwork nightmare. Use of our ESD wrist strap and ESD bench mat monitors continuously verifies the effectiveness of your ESD protected workstation, simultaneously satisfies ISO logging requirements and insures outstanding product quality.

Operators plug their Transforming Technologies’ ESD coil cord into the grounding jack of the constant monitor right at their workstation. The constant monitor grounds the wrist strap and simultaneously monitors for faults in the ground path from the strap to the earth ground, including proper contact to the operators skin. A proper working ground path results in the LED on the constant monitor to glow green (indicating GOOD). If a fault is detected, the LED will blink red (indicating FAULT), and the unit will repeatedly beep.

Types of monitors Transforming Technologies carries include:

  • Capacitance constant monitors- used with a single wire wrist strap.
  • Impedance constant monitors-uses a detection circuit designed to reduce false alarms and eliminate adjustments.
  • Resistance constant monitors- used with as two wire (dual) wrist strap.
  • Body voltage constant monitors- This type senses the voltage on a person’s body through a wrist strap.

When considering a constant monitor, the equipment cost including the wrist strap, maintenance and training cost, labor time for performing wrist strop tests and the potential failures due to non-functional wrist straps should be considered.
